Urban Strategies, Inc. (USI), the People Partner for the One Westside initiative, continues to grow its local presence and deepen engagement with residents at College Hill Courts. To date, nine team members have been hired to support Chattanooga families, including six Family Support Specialists, one Family Support Manager, one Workforce Specialist, and one Education Specialist. Recruitment is also underway for a Senior Project Manager, a key leadership role that will further strengthen coordination and service delivery within the People Plan.
Bringing Families Together
On April 17, 2025, USI hosted an Easter Eggstravaganza for College Hill residents. More than 55 families joined in for an afternoon of fun, games, and connection. Children and parents participated in a variety of activities, and representatives from the American Job Center shared information about summer economic opportunities for out-of-school youth. Events like these help USI staff connect with residents in meaningful ways, building trust while creating space for learning and celebration.
Building Staff Capacity
On June 25, 2025, Family Support Specialists took part in Part 1 of an Education Training led by Tyronda Minter, USI’s Vice President of Education. The session focused on improving education-related outcomes, equipping staff with new tools and strategies to better support students and families.
Strengthening Partnerships
Throughout the quarter, CHA and USI met with local organizations that pledged CNI leverage to reaffirm their commitments, coordinate referrals, and track resources. These meetings also helped finalize Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) that outline clear collaboration strategies for the months ahead.
On June 26, 2025, USI hosted a Service Provider Network meeting bringing together partners from every key service area: economic mobility, education, housing, and health and wellness. The discussion centered on Results Based Accountability (Results Count), case management updates, and partner resources. Attendees also reviewed MOU timelines with CHA and USI, ensuring everyone is aligned to support residents as new services and opportunities come online.
Supporting Economic Growth
During the second quarter of 2025, USI’s Workforce Specialist helped seven heads of household secure employment, a milestone that reflects the organization’s commitment to connecting residents with meaningful, sustainable work.
With an expanding team, stronger partnerships, and ongoing community engagement, USI continues to play a vital role in supporting College Hill Courts residents and advancing the people-focused goals of the One Westside initiative.
One Westside made strong progress on Critical Community Improvements, including finishing touches on the James A. Henry Hub, planning the Creative Cultural Innovation Incubator, enhancing green spaces, and advancing public art projects like the underpass lighting and mural.
The Housing Plan is advancing at College Hill Courts, with new housing, improved streets, and community amenities. Phases 1 and 2 are underway, connecting residents to jobs and services, while planning for Phase 3 focuses on future infrastructure.
